Sigmavision Open Day marks Major Company Milestone

Myrddin Jones of the Technology Strategy Board and John Howell MP mark the major Milestone with Sigmavision’s Managing Director Andrew Pryce

Sigmavision held an open day on 7th February 2014 to mark the launch of its patent protected tyre measurement technology, TreadReader, having recently secured an exclusive contract with Hunter Engineering Company, a leading garage equipment manufacturer headquartered in the USA. TreadReader is an automatic tyre inspection system that identifies badly worn or unevenly worn tyres that need replacing and helps early detection of wheel misalignment that accelerates tyre wear. Currently one in eight vehicles in the UK has at least one illegal tyre and 60% of vehicles have some form or wheel misalignment.

The TreadReader tyre measurement system, developed with the aid of grant funding from Technology Strategy Board, is configured as a Drive Over ramp that generates a 3D laser scan of each tyre on a vehicle. The 3D scans are then displayed together with tread depths that are measured across the whole width of the tyre. The system may be used for all vehicle types from cars to trucks and buses, and tyre measurements are accurate even if tyres are wet or dirty.

The open day was attended by Myrddin Jones and Cathy Curling representing Technology Strategy Board, Sigmavision stakeholders and distinguished guests including John Howell MP; Cllr Barry Wood, Leader of Cherwell District Council and Cllr Melenie Magee, Bicester Mayor. A tour of Sigmavision’s recently remodelled manufacturing facility and demonstration of the TreadReader tyre measurement system was followed by a lunch reception.

Dr Andrew Pryce, Sigmavision’s MD, comments “We wanted to hold an Open Day as a way of formally launching our patented TreadReader technology and the same time paying tribute to all those who have supported its development. None more so than Technology Strategy Board who play a vital role supporting UK business to fill the funding gap and allow the commercialisation of world beating technologies like TreadReader”.
