Tyre Safety Month supported by Sigmavision
Tyre Safety Month campaigns take place every October to coincide with the onset of the worst of the British weather and act as a focus for the UK’s tyre safety awareness charity’s year-round activities.
As a Tyresafe member and supporter, Sigmavision is working in partnership with Tyresafe and Highways England to raise awareness of tyre safety. At the Tyresafe Annual Briefing earlier this year, tread depth of delegates’ car tyres was measured using the award-winning TreadReader Hand Held scanner.
The detailed 3D scans produced by the scanner revealed uneven wear on 34% of tyres and wear patterns indicating under or over inflation on 28% of tyres. The patented TreadReader technology inside the TreadReader Hand Held scanner and Drive Over ramp surpasses all other tyre measurement devices for detail and accuracy.
Details of a further tyre safety event and tread depth survey, bringing together Tyresafe and Sigmavision are to be announced shortly.
Over 10 million illegal and dangerous tyres could be on Britain’s roads in 2016
As revealed earlier this year by TyreSafe’s survey of tyres at the point of replacement, in partnership with Highways England, there is evidence that the number of illegal tyres on Britain’s roads this year will remain at 10 million or even increase. Driving with illegal tyres not only leaves the driver vulnerable to a £2500 fine and three-point penalty but also far more likely to be involved in an incident.
The TyreSafe’s survey also found that more than 27% of people replaced their tyres when they were already illegal, that could mean over 10 million illegal and dangerous tyres on Britain’s roads in 2016.
To further raise awarenss of Tyre Safety Month, TyreSafe is encouraging motorists to take a photo of themselves while carrying out a tyre check and posting it either to facebook.com/tyresafeuk or use #TyreChecks on Twitter and include the charity’s handle @TyreSafe
