Cheshire Fire Service proactive approach with TreadReader Scanners

The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Road Safety team are using the TreadReader Hand Held scanner to highlight the dangers of badly worn tyres. The Fire and Rescue team plays an important role in the community, raising awareness of safety issues at home and on the road.

The Hand Held scanners will be used at public safety events, where the Road Safety team will be talking to the public about the importance of Vehicle Safety Checks. Cheshire Fire and Rescue use the P.O.W.D.E.R.S. check to ask motorists is your car safe to drive?

To educate the public about the importance of tyres in relation to road safety, the Cheshire Fire website offers helpful reminders about tyre safety:

  • It is a legal requirement that each of your tyres has a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm.
  • You could receive a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per tyre if you have illegal tyres
  • Driving with underinflated or overinflated tyres can adversely affect your braking distance, steering, fuel efficiency and lifetime of your tyres.
